The ' Ain-Tree'

The name ‘Aintree’ is widely believed to mean ‘one tree’ and according to legend a beech tree stood in Bull Bridge Lane for hundreds of years before it was felled due to disease in 2004.

The Parish Council was proposing to adopt the mature whitebeam tree at the junction of Altway and Aintree Lane, the gateway to Aintree Village, as the new ‘Ain-Tree’ and Sefton Council had given permission for the Parish Council to adopt the tree.

Residents' views were requested for this proposal but only three residents responded. Consequenty, the Parish Council funded a large stone and plaque in the grounds of Aintree Library to commemerate the 'Ain Tree'.
